Media Observation

Saved by the Bell
No longer aired (Was originally aired on NBC during the early 90's ) but a few episodes have been uploaded to Youtube.

Saved by the Bell deals with how it is to be in high school and all the "wackyness" and issues that comes with being in high school.

The protagnists of this show always ends up facing somekind of social issue which they have to resolve. These "problems" usually ends up getting solved in typical sitcom fashion, first the problem is realized, it either expands and/or affects one or more characters, then one character
notices that the problem has gone way out of hand and tries to make the one/ones who is/are affected by the conflict or problem realize that it's transformed them into a bad person, and thus the problem is solved.

I would guess that this could be a way teens deal with conflicts and problems in real life, but it usually varies depending on the conflict or problem at hand. Because the problem needs to be realised first in order for it to be resolved. Therefore I would have to say it is fairly realisitc way a teen in real life could use when solving similiar issues as shown in the show.

The main characters consist of:
- Zack, the troublemaker who uses his charm to get out of trouble.
- Screech, the goofy nerdy guy who never seems to get out of puberty.
- Slater, The athletic type who is very similiar to Zack.
- Kelly, the good looking cheerleader.
- Lisa, the fashionable and self-centered brat.
- Jessica, the smart feminist/enviromentalist who's also Slater's girlfriend.

All of the protaganists are portrayed in the same stereotypical way as any other
sitcom dealing with teenagers does, AKA not very realistically and a bit too exaggerated.

None of the protagnists are directly portrayed in a negative way, although I personally thought some of them were quite dull and annoying, especially Jessica. All she does is complain about things being immoral, sexist or just plain wrong and never really seems to relax.

I would personally never want to be anyone on this show, they're all too stereotypical, idiotic and unrealistic. However I've never been to an American high school myself but I strongly doubt that it would resemble anything close to Saved by the Bell's version of high school.
